Indonesia - Islands of endless wonder and rich tradition
The world's largest archipelago, comprising over 17,000 islands and more than 270 million people, making it the fourth most populous country. Java, the nation’s political and economic center, is home to the capital Jakarta and several active volcanoes, including Mount Bromo, and is one of the most densely populated islands on Earth. Bali is renowned for its Hindu culture, terraced rice paddies, and vibrant arts scene, drawing millions of international tourists annually. Lombok, east of Bali, features Mount Rinjani, pristine beaches, and a quieter, less developed tourism profile that appeals to hikers and surfers.
August 2017:
My highlights were the impressive volcanos Bromo and Ijen on Java, Yogyakarta and the calm and authentic Lombok. No matter on wthich island, every market was colorful, and endlessly interesting. For a travel photographer, markets are classrooms.
